Paws-On Learning Starts Here – Reserve Your Spot!
Life is too short to be grave and serious about most things, especially meditation. Maybe you've tried a seminar or workshop on mindfulness or meditation. I know I did, and as soon as I'd walk in the room, I'd want to walk out. I didn't belong there. Kind of a loud, messy human, I'd scan the audience of ponderous people, speaking quietly and looking calm (which they probably weren't), and I'd think, "WTF. This is gonna be a long ass coupla hours." I often left feeling defeated, finished before I started because I thought you had to be somber to embrace meditation; these folks already looked calm (it's amazing how people can act a certain way to fit in), and I was a jittery girl in sweatpants with a mind that wouldn't shut up.
Laughter is the best medicine; it opens you up like few things can, so if you attend a workshop or seminar of mine, be prepared to enjoy yourself and probably hear a measure of cursing. We can share our flubs and "failures" and collaborate to train our minds toward peace without feeling or pretending to be holy. Fuck that.
When I taught high school, I always exposed the kids to meditation, and you know what? Teenagers LOVE IT, and they loved me because I was all light touch, laughter, and unconditional love—no judgment, no fear. Bring your crazy puppy self to the dog park, and let's have some fun.

The Way Dogs Learn: Reward and Connection
Time to give props to The Dog Whisperer, Cesar Milan, because I watched a slew of his training videos and read about his methods. There were plenty of other experts and organizations I used to dig deep into the chaotic mind of the untrained puppy and I found the secret sauce that applies to your mind as well as your canine's.
Dogs are motivated by two things: connection and reward. They love their people and when in training, want nothing more than to connect with them to get the next thing - a reward. With pups, obviously, a treat is the Holy Grail and they will definitely risk it for the biscuit. Eventually, they don't need the reward but they'll always crave connection.
In our workshops, we will do the same (no biscuits). We will connect in the learning process, sharing what feels fun or useful and enjoying the camaraderie of all the hapless humans stumbling on the path to peace. Connection is its own reward, and eventually, even in solitude, you won't be alone because we truly are all in this together.
The Gift and Gratitude Economy: Everything is FREE.
Capitalism has kinda run amok, right? How cool would it be if goods and services were exchanged with generosity and gratitude rather than money and human effort?
My HOW TO BE A GOOD DOG seminars and workshops are based on the Gift and Gratitude Economy. This means they are FREE—you just register and show up in person or online (for in person gigs I will request travel expenses but the rest is gift-based). If you think there is value or you want to pay for a workshop or seminar, there are a few ways you can do that.
You'll see these options at registration:
-
FREE! Just register and we'll see you there.
-
REGISTER and PAY whatever you want (or, of course, nothing).
-
REGISTER and GIVE THE MONEY TO SOMEONE ELSE - your favorite nonprofit or a stranger, friend, or neighbor who might need it.
-
REGISTER, join us, and donate AFTER the event if you think it was worthwhile.
-
GRATITUDE: Let me and/or others know if you are thankful for the experience.
